Pretty gritty and to the point. Nice revenge aspect to it although that part could have delivered a bit more. Enjoyed it otherwise.

One of the greatest pleasures of The G is finally seeing fellow Knoxville native Dale Dickey receive a leading role worthy of her talent. She's spent decades quietly elevating supporting roles, and this film serves as another reminder that she has always been capable of carrying an entire story on her shoulders. Dickey brings a quiet confidence and lived-in authenticity to the character that makes her compelling from the moment she appears on screen. Ironically, I think the screenplay occasionally works against her by trying too hard to convince the audience that she's a force to be reckoned with. Instead of simply trusting Dickey's performance to establish that naturally, it repeatedly reinforces the point, and I found those moments less convincing than the performance itself. She never needed the screenplay to tell me she was formidable; she'd already done that on her own. I appreciated seeing Dale Dickey finally receive a role worthy of her talent, but the story gradually settles into familiar territory without delivering the payoff I kept waiting for. The premise has enough intrigue to keep things moving, yet it rarely develops beyond the surface in a way that leaves a lasting impression. There are flashes of a sharper, more memorable thriller throughout, but they never quite come together into something greater than the sum of their parts. The G is ultimately a film carried by its lead performance rather than its screenplay, and that's both its greatest strength and its biggest frustration. Had the script shown the same confidence in Dale Dickey that she shows in every scene, I think the film would have been considerably stronger.

Interesting Ideas, Uneven Execution "The G" is a film that feels like it has something to say, but struggles to fully deliver on its potential. There are moments where it becomes genuinely engaging, and you can see the intent behind it, but the overall experience ends up being a bit inconsistent. The performances are decent and bring some weight to the story. There is enough commitment to make certain scenes work, even when the material itself is not always as strong as it could be. Visually, the film has a solid and controlled style. It does not try to be overly flashy, but it creates a fitting atmosphere that supports the tone. The soundtrack follows the same approach, staying subtle and functional. The script has some interesting ideas, but the pacing and structure do not always help them shine. At times it feels a bit uneven, moving between moments that work well and others that feel less developed or less impactful. That inconsistency is what holds it back the most. It never fully commits to its strengths, and because of that, it feels like it falls short of what it could have been. In the end, it is a decent watch with some good elements, but also clear limitations that keep it from standing out in a meaningful way.
