The casting of Joan as John's sister was absolutely brilliant. The "meme" scene didn't hold the weight I thought it would... but the back & forth between the leads was pretty great.

But I gotta say, while this is a fine 80s teen romance movie, it absolutely excels as a father-daughter movie. Their relationship is the core conflict of this film, and it is what truly makes it memorable in my opinion. Go in expecting some good songs and lots of heart, and I think you'll come out surprised how much this movie affects you. I know I was. PS. John Cusack is a boss.
