- vangh12026年6月1日This movie shines in its ability to pervade nearly every moment with an ineffable, but nonetheless palpable sense of anxiety and dread, pulling the viewer's state of mind in lockstep with Bear's. And it's all the more impressive for the fact that there's two stark moments where all of it dissipates and feels super relaxed and chill: each time Bear and Sarah have a one on one. The dynamic the two of them have sitting on the floor of the music store, and then later in the car, you can just feel how comfortable and at ease they are with each other (and we can sense it in the latter scene even though we're dreading what is surely to come. And it does, and even having expected it, it's more horrible than we'd feared) which makes the anxiousness feel even more oppressive having gotten outside of it for fleeting moments. That said, despite the fact the movie does a tonally perfect job of instilling the protagonist's emotions into the viewer, it also makes it clear that he is not a sympathetic or good character at all. There are multiple moments where, even though it's far too late to manage anything that could be considered "the right thing," he's too scared and self-conserving to make anything less terrible for Nikki or Ian or Sarah or even himself, ironically. The movie's use of near dark and near silhouette is unmatched. I've never seen anything like it. Nikki being nearly completely obscured but with just enough detail to have your mind's eye fill in a sort of distorted, creepy, monstrous version of her was perfect. And those eyes shining out of the shadows. Amazing. I don't know if Inde Navarrette just has Jim Carrey level talent, or if CG was used to help exaggerate her expressions, but either way they were legendary, the absolute perfect mix of unsettling and silly. All of her expressions, mannerisms, movements, and line delivery always perfectly toed the line between bizarre and horrifying. And the movie doesn't make the mistake of feeling the need to do a huge lore dump in the third act, which is amazing. We absolutely get enough to draw some conclusions, without spoiling any of the mystery or distracting from the horror. Just a phenomenal horror film, top to bottom.
- Zokkiie5天前This movie came completely out of nowhere. I had never heard of it, went in with zero expectations, and it hit me like a damn Tsar Bomba. Absolute shocker. I'm a horror fanatic and genuinely can't remember the last time a movie actually scared me, let alone creeped me out this much. The atmosphere is suffocating, the tension never lets up, and it gets under your skin in a way very few horror movies manage to do. The lead actress is phenomenal and completely carries the movie. Her performance feels so raw and believable that it makes everything even more unsettling. Considering the almost non-existent budget, what they pulled off here is honestly incredible. This is the kind of horror movie that reminds you why you love the genre in the first place. I'd honestly call it a masterpiece.
- Alex2026年7月2日I honestly feel like a lot of people have forgotten how to form their own opinions. Too many just follow the hype and agree with the majority instead of saying what they actually think. I watched this movie twice because I wanted to give it a fair chance. Maybe it's because I grew up watching much scarier movies as a kid, but this just wasn't scary to me. The plot is also very simple and predictable. That said, I do think the acting was solid, and the production quality was good. It's a decent movie, but nowhere near the masterpiece people are making it out to be. For me, it's around a 6 or 7 out of 10, not a 9 or 10. Horror is subjective, and if you loved it, that's perfectly fine. I just don't think it's the "horror movie of the year" that so many people claim it is. I've seen far better horror films that left a much bigger impact. I'm sure this opinion will get downvoted because it goes against the popular consensus, but I'd rather be honest than pretend I loved something just because everyone else did.
