I found it through a Facebook film recommendation, and the premise was enough: two documentary filmmakers investigate a vanished graffiti artist and a freestanding door that seems to open onto other dimensions. This is exactly the sort of film that belongs in the library as a reminder that low-budget genre cinema can still have strange ideas rattling around in it. It is not polished, and anyone expecting expensive multiverse spectacle will need to recalibrate quickly. The effects are uneven, the acting varies, and the dialogue sometimes has that indie stiffness where you can feel the line being delivered rather than lived. But the handheld documentary style suits it completely. The format gives the film immediacy, and the cheapness often helps rather than hurts. The best reason to revisit it is the imagination. The mirror-world moment, the beach of doors, the soft-play nightmare, the odd sky-whale and giant imagery, and the absurdly serious dog ending all give it a flavour that is not quite like anything else. It has traces of creepypasta, liminal horror, British awkward comedy, and scrappy cosmic horror, all stitched together with camera footage and mild panic. The weakest part is the villain. Not-Brian is an interesting idea, but the door itself is far more unsettling than the human explanation attached to it. Even so, the ending gives the film a better emotional shape than expected, especially around Sam’s temptation to leave this world behind. Not a perfect film, but a memorable one. Worth keeping for nights when polished horror feels too predictable and a strange little portal in a flat sounds more appealing.
