I remember watching this from home and having the crap scared out of me during that *SPOILER* one scene with the mom floating on the ceiling. Not only does it excel in its scariness, but has excellent acting, writing, everything.

- Tanalien2024年11月2日Hereditary is a family drama disguised as a horror film. Given the brutality of these experiences and how they are captured, Ari Aster either turned his personal experience into a screen story, imagined such grievous trauma in his mind, or combined both truth and fiction. Hereditary is very often a hard watch, but it always feels honest.

- tellum2025年8月18日I did not enjoy this as much as other horror fans, for me it was very plodding and the ending I didn’t care for. But there is some very disturbing imagery that is burned in my brain, and relatable realistic terror as well as supernatural terror. For bigger fans of the genre this is still a good movie.

The explanation is inexplicable. The result is multitonal, a partly comical fever dream dressed in visual discomfort. Yet the dread lingers past the runtime. Every scene holds attention. But the real artists were Steve Newburn and his team creating all those miniatures.
