Heinlein was a unsentimental hard science kind of guy, so there’s no warmth from or between the characters. It’s a kind of gung ho American patriotism, where captains of industry take it upon themselves to achieve what the government can’t or won’t prioritize financially; to land men on the moon and win the space race – eleven years before the start of the Apollo program. It has some really nice set pieces, like the command module of the rocketship, and the Lunar surface, and those space suits are beatific.
