One of the most beautiful and dark existencial poems ever made. A movie that can't be more universal and essential.

There’s just something about this movie that still works incredibly well. The atmosphere is unreal, the production design is fantastic, and the combination of the rain, neon and music gives it a look that basically became the blueprint for futuristic sci-fi. It also holds up surprisingly well visually, which is pretty impressive considering how old it is. Rutger Hauer is brilliant, and the rest of the cast fits the world perfectly. It’s definitely a slow movie, but I never really mind that because there’s so much to take in. The story gives you plenty to think about without constantly explaining everything, and the whole question of what makes someone human is handled really well. Some scenes are almost hypnotic, and the final stretch is especially memorable. Just an absolutely brilliant sci-fi film.

What really makes this film great is it's use of light. In some scenes the lighting brings more drama to the screen than the script.

Watching films like this make me loathe the sanitized, CGI green screen that plagues movies these days. This is one atmospheric movie. It was really overrated beyond that though.

Honestly, I’m at a loss for words. I’ll save my thoughts on the film’s theoretical side for a rewatch. For now, I’ll stick to flirting with its practical, technical, and artistic aspects. I watched this version: Blade Runner (1982) – The Final Cut (2007) – 4K UHD Blu-ray Remux (2160p HDR10). It was one of the greatest visual experiences I’ve ever had. Deep blacks, perfectly black shadows—exactly as they should be. Anyone who hasn’t seen the film in this version is, in my opinion, judging it from an incomplete perspective. This is the greatest production design I’ve ever seen, and the greatest worldbuilding as well. It’s astonishing beyond words. What Ridley Scott achieved with this restored edition is remarkable overall. That said, when it comes to the color grading, some shots here—beautiful as they are—weren’t quite as stunning as they were in the Director’s Cut. Even so, this remains the definitive version, the one Ridley Scott ultimately endorsed, and it’s the version that deserves to be experienced in the highest possible quality. One of the most visually complete and cohesive films in the history of cinema. Yes, I say that with complete confidence—and I say it not as a seasoned cinephile, but as someone who has only recently sunk his teeth into this art form. The perfection of the image is matched by the perfection of the sound and the soundtrack. The harmony between them is extraordinary, making the brilliance of everyone behind this masterpiece unmistakably clear. The score is among the greatest in the history of cinema.

Incredible to think this movie was made in the early 80's, without CGI technology. A visual and sonic masterpiece that still stands supreme in today's overuse of computer aided graphics.

Watched the 2017 "Final Cut". Kinda thinking I'd like the "Director's Cut" better.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Blade Runner – Tears in rain. It's funny looking back now and remembering that many critics weren't particularly impressed when Blade Runner first arrived. History has not been kind to those reviews. Today, it's recognised as one of the most influential science-fiction films ever made, and for good reason. This isn't just a movie about the future. It's a dark, beautiful existential poem disguised as a detective story. The first thing that strikes me every time I watch it is just how incredible it looks. This film was made in the early 1980s, long before modern CGI became the answer to every visual problem. Yet somehow Ridley Scott and his team created a future that still feels believable decades later. The rain-soaked streets, towering cityscapes, endless neon, and oppressive atmosphere remain some of the most iconic imagery ever put on film. And then there's the sound. The score wraps around the visuals perfectly, creating a mood that is equal parts melancholy, wonder, and dread. Together they form one of the greatest audiovisual experiences cinema has ever produced. What elevates Blade Runner beyond its technical achievements, however, is the question at its heart. Identity. Mortality. Memory. What it means to be human. These are themes that remain just as relevant today as they were when the film was released. The story may be set in the future, but the questions it asks are timeless. The performances are excellent throughout, but this is one of those rare films where the atmosphere itself feels like a character. Every frame drips with meaning and mood. And then there's that ending. I won't say much more because surely there's still someone out there who hasn't seen it yet. What I will say is that it remains one of the most memorable and powerful final sequences ever filmed. Decades later, people are still talking about it, analysing it, and quoting it. There are science-fiction films, and then there are films that redefine what science fiction can be. Blade Runner belongs firmly in the second category. 🥃 A whisky drunk alone while rain taps against the window — reflective, haunting, and lingering long after the glass is empty.
