His direction is tight, focused, and increasingly assured as the film progresses, building tension steadily rather than relying on bombast. Once the operation is underway, Argo becomes relentlessly gripping, even if you already know the outcome — a hallmark of excellent filmmaking. Despite its limitations, this is still essential viewing for anyone interested in modern history, political thrillers, or true stories that feel almost unbelievable.
