Where to Watch Teach You a Lesson
- Hitachi3694 juli 2026As a non-korean this show is a wild ride for me. First trigger warning, it starts like all k-dramas start with a youth throwing themselves off of a roof. That gets old, but I'm sure it is reflective of the local struggles of more roof centric communities. Beyond the youth final harm stuff going on, again as an outside viewer, I don't know if this show is really about student or teacher rights. So many times they seem to be catering to both demographics, the boomer parents (or the Korean equivalent) and entitled youth. The "story" as far as that goes is a bit light for those life lessons for either party. Instead the story matures into more of a grief/sorrow story about a dead wife/daughter. I understand the complicated interplay of student/teacher rights was more of the vehicle of the series than the story they wanted to tell, and that makes me sad. So many series touch on the challenging aspect of Asian education styles, and global challenges of the youth in general but don't try and move the bar. The story can be both a series of the struggles of losing a loved one, and the flaws of an education system with unlikely or innovative solutions that have a grounding in reality. Instead we are shown solutions where corporal punishment or memeing the parents is the solution. Who doesn’t enjoy a good trolling, but at the end of the day that is all it is. So I guess in recap, it is a fun series that doesn't try and take itself seriously, but could have been really improved by actually challenging some of the issues that impact education everywhere. It saw what it could be, and was like nah fam, that isn't for me.
- LD_5015 juni 2026This is one of Netflix's better produced shows being able to balance dark tones mixed in with moments of levity and being downright goofy (which is a good thing). The show successfully portrays real emotional weight of every character's stake in their personal arcs and overaching ones across the 10 episodes. The camera work is done in such a way that makes scenes engaging to look at, alongside dynamic scenes that are complemented by good camerwork. However, the quality of the arcs per episode vary. Some episodes have very good conflicts and characters, but many are either bogged down by not being very engaging, being rushed, or just having underwhelming conclusions. The action is also not very consistent across all of the characters. It is very clear that the main character, inspector Na Hwa-jin, played by Kim Mu-yeol, is very familiar in performing his own stunts and hand-to-hand combat, but the same cannot be said for Jin Ki-joo, who portrays the group's eccentric Im Han-rim. The show is unfortunately severely held back by her unconvincing physical ability to fight (masked by quick cuts or tight camera angles) or her portrayal of an eccentric and quirky former Special Forces. P.O as Bong Geun-dae does a decent job endearing the audience as the team's techie and timid member of the team that make a well-balanced trio. Overall, this is fairly entertaining kdrama to watch, with engaging action, good emotional stakes, and some endearing characters.
