Saw it on TV back in the 80's and yes, it’s still wild that a POW camp sitcom worked this well. Set in a German WWII prisoner of war camp, this show flips expectations: instead of bleak drama, you get espionage, sabotage and slapstick, all orchestrated by the ever clever Colonel Hogan and his crew of Allied misfits. They run rings around their clueless captors, turning Stalag 13 into a secret base of operations right under the noses of Klink and Schultz. Bob Crane leads with charm, Richard Dawson brings the wit and Werner Klemperer’s Klink is the perfect blend of pompous and pathetic. The tone? Pure ’60s sitcom, laugh track, hijinks and just enough wartime absurdity to keep things cheeky without crossing the line. Watching it again feels like stepping into a time capsule: vintage humor, iconic catchphrases (“I know nothing!”) and a cast that knew exactly how to play the farce. It’s not historically accurate and it’s not trying to be. It’s satire with a wink, and it still lands.
