Chopped challenges four promising chefs to turn a selection of everyday ingredients into an extraordinary three-course meal. In each episode, four chefs compete. The show is divided into three rounds; in each round, the chefs are given a basket with four unrelated ingredients, and the dish each competitor prepares must contain all of these ingredients.

And in the last course, a classic American food – perfect for the grill but peculiar in dessert – complicates the judges' final decision.

Then in the entrée round, it's up to the judges to determine who fell short whose dish was a cut above the rest. And the two finalists devise ambitious plans for using a salty condiment and a sweet fruit in their desserts.
