Agatha and Ethel grow close in their friendship at school: joking with each other; passing notes in class; and spending their weekends playing together. When Agatha reveals her feelings towards Ethel and they are not reciprocated, she attempts to get rid of her queerness through a series of 'remedies'. These are found through a book given to her by the school Priest. These do not work, and so Agatha turns to the final page which tells her the ultimate remedy to queerness is electrocution. In a moment of rupture, Agatha electrocutes herself, whilst Ethel slips a note under her door, confessing her love.
