I'll start by saying I'm NOT an MMA fan. But this movie is special. Every single aspect of this movie is amazing. Showed the world who Tom Hardy is and what an incredible actor he is.

Drunk Vietnam Dad Vet who is finally sober. One son who is a physics teacher, the other is a war hero/war deserter, and they both train in MAA to kick each other's asses while simultaneously reconciling each other's pasts and childhood. Good acting. Good fighting. Good story.

MMA is the backdrop to a drama about brothers from a broken family and trying to reconcile their relationship. For me the ending makes the movie which I liked a lot.

Some may call this a formulaic tear-jerker, or a professional milker of emotions, but you have to give credence to both Tom Hardy’s and Nick Nolte’s performances. There is some real cathartic moments in this engaging film. Tom Hardy, in this pre-Dark Knight Rises role shows some genuine menace and unpredictability as an emotionally lost brother, and son of an ex alcoholic who dedicated his life to caring for a terminally ill mother. Nolte got the Screen Actors Guild Award for his supporting actor performance, and it’s easy to see why. He lets it all hang out there, raw emotional wounds and all. You either love this film, or you hate it for its “by the numbers” plot points, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable fight film.

Raw, Emotional, and Powerfully Human "Warrior" is far more than a sports movie. Beneath its MMA setting lies a deeply emotional family drama about pain, pride, and redemption, and it's this human core that elevates the film into something genuinely powerful. The performances are exceptional. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton bring intensity and vulnerability to their roles, creating two distinct but equally compelling characters. Nick Nolte's performance is also striking, bringing a raw, heartbreaking, and central role to the film's emotional weight. The family dynamics feel authentic and heavy with unresolved trauma, giving real meaning to every confrontation, both inside and outside the ring. The fight sequences are visceral and well staged, but they never feel like the main attraction. Instead, they serve as emotional release points, where personal conflicts finally collide. The pacing builds steadily toward its climax, maintaining tension and emotional investment throughout. Technically, the film is solid and effective. The cinematography captures both the brutality of the sport and the intimacy of quieter moments, while the music heightens the drama without overwhelming it. "Warrior" is intense, emotional, and surprisingly tender. It may follow some familiar beats, but the honesty of its performances and the strength of its emotional core make it stand out. A powerful and moving film that leaves a lasting impact.

Decent stories. It seemed intentional to keep Tommy's story as bits n pieces. I suppose the absolutely crappy filming angle of any action was intentional, also. Sorry, but that was so distracting for me and and hence my rating of 3 stars.

This movie has it all: brothers, fathers, children, small bottles of liquor, old English tattoos, short shorts, long shorts, Moby Dick, books on tape, crying, bleeding, men falling down, and more shaky handheld camera shots than you can shake a stick at.
