Where to Watch Three Extremes
- cultfilmliker8 maj 2026Now That’s What I Call A Horror Anthology! “Dumplings” 3.5/5* Utterly disgusting and one of the most fucked up things I’ve ever seen. You don’t expect it to get worse and it just keeps surprising you Idk who Fruit Chan is but I dig their style already! Big Texas Chainsaw 70’s style energy from the get go……… Yeah um nevermind Jesus. No matter how bad you thought the 1st one was gonna be….its worse than that. My mom would have a heart attack, like legitimately. Straight up one of the most shocking things I’ve ever encountered. I don’t get how the protagonist was so obtuse tho - what did she THINK Aunt Mei was referring to Also my man was so horned up it was like he didn’t even notice he had a leg in a sling lmfao Could have cut that last shot imo “Cut” 3.5/5* Insane transitions from Park Chan-wook as always. And the directing gets even better! What camerawork. Incredible dance moves. Confusing and questionable ending! Kinda fun how it was close to Saw lol Young Lee Byung-hun been great. I need to watch Joint Security Area “Box” 5/5* Hey, that’s Tetsu from Love Exposure! Another level of Lynchian. Like he should get an EP on this. Feels ripped straight out of a Japanese version of Twin Peaks x The Elephant Man Wasn’t sure I was fully understanding it then the reveal happens and I lost my shit Takashi Miike’s best work that I’ve seen! (I have not seen a lot) Added to The Non-English Niche
- jackmeat23 mars 2026My quick rating - 6.5/10. Three Extremes is actually 3 unique stories released as one film. Each story represents a different "idea," so to speak. Without going into detail per story, each is crafted exceptionally well in all aspects of true film. Granted, this is a foreign movie, so it is subtitled (the version I saw), but this does not distract from the acting in the slightest. The acting in "Cut" stood out most to me as the crazy man slowly fell apart throughout his hostage-taking ordeal. This was how Park Chan-wook followed up Oldboy and ever since has brought out some remarkable films. "Box" was a cinematography 101 class on how to show style, scenery, and environment to hold attention to an otherwise fairly bland plot. Then again, Takashi Miike directed this episode, and his eye behind the camera is second to none. The startling subject matter of "Dumplings" may revolt some viewers, but it is also the best of the three to draw you into the story and round it out with quality acting that is very subtle. This was the first outing for Fruit Chan, who has since turned out some varying quality flicks. I suggest you go in blind to this one, as I did; the payoff is quite good. Enjoy. I know I currently have this one slated up for a rewatch soon due to a quality upgrade, and after revisiting this review, I am eager to check it out again. Filmtrilogin "Three...
