Russell forms the best type of hero. Believable in every necessary manner. I continue to be shocked at the lack of praise by audience in general for this sci fi story. Certainly one of the best coming out of Hollywood for many years. Great scenes, sounds and, consistent story line, very 'real' actors... Develops a wished for hero and a very nice feeling ending. So sad they never made a part 2 but maybe that is for the best. Thank you Kurt and others. You made something this old sci fi buff will enjoy many times over.

Unofficial Sister Movie to the Blade Runner Series. Written by David Peoples, the writer who worked on Blade Runner. This movie (presumably) takes place on the offworld colonies. Instead of the Tyrel Corporation building replicants from scratch, this competing company uses genetically enhanced humans, raised from birth strickly for warfare. There's quite a number of Blade Runner (and Kurt Russell) referances/homages throughout, but you gotta be on your toes with the pause button to catch them. On it's own, it's a solid scifi entry into Kurt Russell's resume'. Good stuff, worth a watch.

Great action but very short story. I would have preferred the same amount of action if not more and a more in depth story.

Paul W.S. Anderson’s Soldier (1998) delivers a gritty sci-fi action tale centered on the life of Sergeant Todd, played with stoic intensity by Kurt Russell. The film explores the chilling concept of children raised from birth to be emotionless warriors, molded by relentless conditioning and decades of combat. Yet beneath the hardened exterior lies a spark of humanity, revealed when Todd is discarded by his military program and finds refuge among civilians. The narrative contrasts brutal violence with moments of quiet vulnerability, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit even in the face of dehumanization. Explosions, firefights, and futuristic battle sequences keep the adrenaline pumping, while Russell’s restrained performance adds depth to an otherwise straightforward action plot. Though not a perfect film, Soldier resonates as both a spectacle of destruction and a meditation on identity, loyalty, and the possibility of redemption.

It's an oldie but a goodie. I enjoyed it. One of those old school feel good movies where the goodies win and the badies die.

They don't make movies like this any more and it's incredible how much Kurt Russell carries it,

I always loved this movie. I enjoyed it when I was 11 and I enjoy it to this day. I like the super soilder concept and the science fiction setting. Kurt Russell well cast for this movie, in my opinion. It's definitely not a fantastic movie, but at the same time, it's a good watch.

Dismissed by critics, but quietly powerful Soldier is more than just Kurt Russell grunting through explosions. Beneath the pyrotechnics and military clichés lies a surprisingly tender story about obsolescence, identity and quiet rebellion. Russell’s Sergeant Todd barely speaks, but his performance is all eyes and silence, an aging war machine learning to feel. The plot’s simple: discarded soldier defends peaceful settlers from newer, shinier killers. But the emotional beats hit harder than expected. The colony scenes offer a rare softness in a genre often obsessed with tech and testosterone. It’s Wall-E meets Universal Soldier, with a dash of Shane for good measure. Yes, the effects are dated and the pacing uneven, but the film earns its stripes through conviction. It’s not trying to be clever, it’s trying to be honest. And in that honesty, it finds something rare: a sci-fi action flick with a soul.

Beneath the campy pyrotechnics, its a sobering commentary on what happens when we trade human nature for "progress".

Fun, And Somewhat underated for its time.
