Vår man Flint Ratings & Reviews
- Mister Arn13 januari 2025“Our Man Flint” is a Bond parody that leans heavily on showcasing Flint's supposed superiority, but it stretches this single idea too thin. While the over-the-top elements may amuse at first, the humor quickly becomes repetitive, losing its charm after the initial scenes. What starts as playful satire ends up feeling like a one-note joke dragged out for too long.
- Shaydeknight5 januari 2026Our Man Flint is a light, playful spy-fi spoof that wears its intentions openly. It is very much a product of its time, and that is part of its appeal. Watching it now feels like peering into a glossy, optimistic vision of the world from nearly seventy years ago, when espionage was colorful, gadget driven, and cheerfully implausible. The film is openly parodying the spy boom of the era. Bond, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and similar properties are clearly in its sights, and the technology is deliberately absurd. Everything is pushed just past credibility, not in an attempt to convince, but to amuse. One particularly charming touch is the appearance of "Agent 0008", played by Robert Gunner, whose Connery adjacent look is clearly intentional. Later, seeing a woman casually reading a pulp novel about Agent 0008's adventures is a perfect bit of self awareness, reinforcing the film's affectionate mockery of the genre and its readership. By contemporary standards, the film is undeniably sexist. Flint's harem and effortless sexual dominance take the Bond fantasy and dial it up to an almost cartoonish level. What may once have read as suave exaggeration now lands as ridiculous rather than seductive, though that excess does underline the film's satirical intent, even if not always successfully. James Coburn is an interesting choice for Flint. He is not conventionally handsome, nor especially charming in the classic sense, but he brings a relaxed confidence and wry detachment that largely carries the role. He sells the absurdity by never seeming to strain for it, which helps ground the comedy even when the material goes fully off the rails. Also, kudos to him for one thing in particular: There's a scene where he balances with his head on one chair and his feet on another that he REALLY DID without any hidden platforms or wires. Talk about core strength. Ultimately, Our Man Flint is not a major work, nor does it aspire to be. It is a breezy, mildly clever diversion, fun to revisit for its tone, its self parody, and its cultural snapshot of mid-60s pop fantasy. It is enjoyable without being essential, and best appreciated with an understanding of the era it is gently skewering.
