Oddity Ratings & Reviews
- Paul Walsh3 mars 2026An incredibly creepy film with good performances and a stifling atmosphere. I cannot recommend any more highly.
- narakiin22 februari 2026Not great not bad. Decent I guess?
- Serveurlestin2 januari 2026vraiment a piece of shit
- rg94001 november 2024Another excellent horror in a year filled with excellent horror movies. I went into this movie totally blind, and so I was able to enjoy the twists and turns of the plot. The first half in particular is very tense and mysterious, and it definitely was getting to me. The movie does rely a bit on jump scares, but it also creates a strong atmosphere that is heightened by the few jumps, leaving the viewer to just guess when the next shoe will drop. As the movie progresses and you start to figure out the secrets behind everything, I think some of the tension and scares get deflated, and I was able to predict some of the larger events. It still feels very fresh, though, and the inevitability of the plot is a function of how well designed and foreshadowed everything is. The use of shadows throughout is great. I constantly looked at the background, trying to parse out any outlines. The acting was pretty good, especially from Carolyn Bracken. A very intriguing movie worth your time.
- Razorbitz29 november 2025This was an absolute delight. Steeped in horror narrative tradition while playing out in some truly unique ways, Oddity delivers in almost every way it sets out to. To say more would spoil the experience--I do love how it plays with time and expectation. Taut and brief, will leave an impression in even the most seasoned horror vets. A must watch for anyone who wants to see a modern classic horror film.
- makdelart28 november 2025And that's how horror should be: disturbing, uncomfortable, peculiar, strange, terrifying...
- Allie Tran3 mars 2025BEST horror of 2024
- CravanThePugilist5 november 2025There were moments in this film that genuinely had me on the edge of my seat, terrified. I watch a LOT of horror movies. That's a very rare reaction.
- shirazesat1 november 2025Similar to some of the Japanese horrors around the time of the Ring.
- Desmond Dale24 januari 2025A nice, concise and tight horror that feels fresh and inventive in comparison to the standard beat of Hollywood jump-scare-ridden sequels and spiritual successors. Oddity doesn't have a large cast of characters, nor is there a large variance of scene locations, but I believe its budget constraints seemed to work more in its favor than against it. There's just enough context and background to make the driving action effective but not so much where the film ever feels lulling or redundant. It plagues its viewers with long, study, focused instances of terror rather than quick, vapid jump scares. It's stripped down and lean and its ergonomic cast and set of locations only makes it more claustrophobic and unsettling.
- Evan May21 oktober 2025Damian McCarthy knows how to frame an unsettling scene. Oddity is a genre-bending film (murder mystery? psychological thriller? supernatural horror?) where slow-building tension is punctuated with a few well-executed jolts. We might begin to see where the plot is heading, but it still reveals our blind spots.
- LivewireAdmin27 september 2025decent jump scares, decent tension but I found the story to be fairly boring and the movie itself seemed confused about the story it was trying to tell. letterboxd: FilmPhanPA
- Marcelo Scatena23 september 2025I was really hoping that this movie was good. Ok story, but the characters are really shallow, and the tension is just non-existent after the first 10 minutes.
- retro_pollo7 september 2025The ending was very disappointing
- Niztradamus25 augusti 2025I'm writing this after my second viewing. I must knock it down from 5 to 4 stars but it's still a really good movie. It's different, really fucking different but in a good way. The acting is great, the ending a masterclass, and the reason why I was swayed to 5 stars after my first viewing, the setting beautiful. All in all a great movie. On the technical side of things, there is a blur that was implemented on Caroline Mentons face early in the movie. She must have gotten a skin condition during a reshoot or something and they wanted to blur that out but my god... That was the worst blur I believe I have ever seen in a movie. There is one other effect I do not want to spoil but that one was absolutely horrid as well. The 80s want their effects back. CGI isn't the strong suite of this movie. The suspense is great and when you finally see what happened to Dani, yeah... That one got me a little. Absolute masterclass that scene. I can full heartedly recommend this movie to any horror or thriller fan. It has it's weaknesses, especially in the technical department but other than that one of the better movies of this decade.
