- thereelvoice27 februari 2025Misery is easily one of the best film adaptations of a Stephen King novel. Kathy Bates is absolutely terrifying as a crazed fan that will do anything to keep her favorite author working. A tense atmosphere, horrifying premise and fantastic performances elevates this film to classic status. If you’re a writer, artist, or even a little wary of an admirer, Misery will have you looking over your shoulder. Psychological horror fans, Misery is a must watch!
- "THE MOVIE FANATIC"16 april 2026One of the best Stephen King movie adaptations ever...Misery is a psychological thriller that's absolutely tense, full of suspence and is very gripping...with very creepy & eerie moments as well and just ticks all of the ✅️ boxes that make for a perfect thriller!!!! And fun-fact Misery is the only Stephen King film in history to win an Oscar 🏆 ....and it was a thoroughly deserved one, because Kathy Bates performance as Annie Wilkes is an all timer....she's so scary, unpredictable and just has you on the edge of your seat, everytime she's on screen...Kathy Bates was unreal in this. And James Caan R.I.P 🙏🕊 in his own way gives an equally as good performance as Paul Sheldon. You just can't imagine any other actor out there...playing that part other than James Caan, this was definitely one of his most famous & iconic roles. Misery has also fantastic dialogue and very good line delivery with conviction from both Kathy Bates & James Caan...they really worked well together. Misery is not only one of the very best Stephen King movie adaptations ever made, its also one of the best ever psychological thrillers ever made in general...Misery is a bonified Classic of the genre!!!!!
- Movie Reviewers' Club26 januari 2025Having read Stephen King's Misery before watching the screen adaptation, I was able to really familiarize myself with the characters and settings like never before. Having said that, the movie stands tall all on its own. With riveting moments of anger, excitement and even love, Misery finds its way to the top 90's movies as a gripping drama and thriller. Paul Sheldon has just finished one of his most recent novels. When doing so he always has the same routine. Travel to Boulder, CO and get the same room at the Boulderado Hotel. Lighting a single cigarette and have a glass of Don Perignon to celebrate has become a tradition as well. On his way back, after finishing the novel, he gets thrown into a terrible blizzard. His car goes hurdling through the air and lands all beat up in a side ditch. Ever since the moment the car flew off the road, his life had changed forever. In this enthralling book you will find yourself experiencing times of pain, confusion and scary out-lashes from his so-called "caretaker". Drugged and beaten, Paul manages to continue on in the slim hope of being rescued. With Rob Reiner at the lead, Stephen King's 23 published book becomes a fantastic motion picture that encapsulates all the emotions from the book showing the high similarity between the two. Overall the film captures in good detail what it would be like to be held captive by your savior.
