- Dave3 juli 2025I really enjoyed this movie when it came out but hadn’t been drawn back to it for a few years. I decided to give it another watch the other day and found that it’s improved with time. The story was great, the special effects were really well done, and the stress you feel as a viewer in the face of insurmountable odds is something the director deserves credit for. It’s not a Saving Private Ryan-quality WWII movie, but definitely a great film to depict the terrible position the U.S. was in on the Pacific front. A perfect balance of wartime stress, emotional connection, and loss—with heroes of the time rising and falling at a perfect pace. The Greatest Generation deserves our admiration for what they accomplished.

The acting was okay, good costumes, sound and cinematography too but in general I feel like it covers a long span of time and doesn’t focus in on any characters enough to get us really invested in any one. The one pilot they keep giving screen time to, isn’t even likable. I feel like it’s kind of all over the place. Cinematic chaos but not in any good way. It had a promising first few minutes during the Pearl Harbor attack but then the people I liked and was invested in died or disappeared after the first few minutes of the movie and the rest, felt like watching background characters for two hours. Pearl Harbor to Midway was six months and at times, that’s how long it felt like this movie took. If I’m wondering how much longer this movie has left, that means it wasn’t good enough. I actually enjoyed the movie “Pearl Harbor”, I can’t say that about this one. It had no foundation and no heart.

- rrdavis19593 maj 2026Woody is atrocious, Dennis Quaid is awful, most of the dialogue is awful and the CGI is beyond terrible. Having said that, it's still a pretty decent watch.
- carmen.s2925 januari 2026I enjoyed watching this remake again. The visual effects are a huge upgrade when compared to the original, of course. The acting isn't bad, considering the actors are portraying real people in many instances. I thought Dennis Quad's makeup made him look a bit young for his portrayal of Admiral Halsey, but that is on me. Sometimes I get stuck on little things that really don't matter.
- Shamus2k8 december 2024Put some great acting talent into a technical showpiece that suffers from some of the quickest aging CGI effects to date and you'll see a lost opportunity to revisit one of histories greatest naval battles. Sadly, there's not much to learn about history here, and the drama is lost in the glitz. Perhaps a Lucas-like special edition down the road fixing the terrible CGI may give it a rebirth, but the writing will probably hold it back even then.

- Seamys-World7 december 2025Really good movie although I think the choice to go go a very polished cliche look at the battle took away from it a little, perhaps a more gritty realistic look at the battles would have aided better. Some of the dialogue was very cliche also which I wasn't a fan of, but all in all it was a good movie 🙂
- Numi11 september 2025Watching Midway (2019) felt like stepping into a digital war museum—loud, proud, and packed with spectacle. Roland Emmerich doesn’t hold back on the visual effects, and while some of the CGI feels over-polished, the aerial combat scenes are undeniably thrilling. The film tries hard to honor the real-life heroes of the Battle of Midway, and I respect its commitment to historical accuracy, even if the storytelling sometimes gets lost in the noise. Ed Skrein’s portrayal of Lt. Dick Best is bold, if a bit cartoonish, and Woody Harrelson brings gravitas as Admiral Nimitz. The dialogue can be stiff, and the emotional depth doesn’t quite reach the level of Saving Private Ryan, but it’s still a solid tribute to courage under fire. Based on my own viewing, I’d give it a 3.6 out of 5. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s a respectable salute to one of WWII’s most pivotal battles.
