- TomVader4 december 2025I accidentally saw this movie on TV when I was in college and happened to be studying Japanese at the time. I don't know if other people will see the charm and humor that I saw, or maybe I'm biased because of the Japanese connection, but I still really like this movie.
- flavo432 december 2025Gung Ho was a movie I found hilarious as a kid—its crude humour, culture clashes, and exaggerated portrayals seemed light-hearted and fun at the time. But after living overseas and experiencing different cultures firsthand, I began to see the film through a very different lens. What once felt like harmless comedy now comes across as a collection of broad stereotypes and cheap tropes, oversimplifying both Japanese and American work cultures for easy laughs. That’s not to say the film has no merit; it does attempt to highlight misunderstandings, workplace pressures, and the value of cooperation. Michael Keaton brings charisma, and some moments still land as satire. But compared to more thoughtful cross-cultural comedies or workplace dramas, Gung Ho lacks nuance and relies too heavily on outdated caricatures. As an adult viewer, I appreciate the message it tries to convey, yet I recognize that much funnier, sharper films exist that don’t resort to stereotype-driven humour.
- soloistthree26 oktober 2025Fun, funny, charming, 80s-tastic, what's not to love? Under-appreciated gem!
- harrypoth30 augusti 2025This movie is absolutely fantastic. As a person who was born in 1978 and whose childhood was spent during the times depicted in this movie and when this movie was filmed, it is exactly as I remember things. It's also a perfect exhibit of why Michael Keaton will always have a job acting. The man can play any type of role any type of character.
