Dystopian future blah blah... But man, just go in watching it for the "Gun-kata" and one of the first films to start that whole genre and don't expect anything more than non-stop action and unbelievable shots (with apparently unlimited bullets) and you won't be disappointed.

This movie is so awesome. It does almost everything perfectly, from the stylish action sequences to the acting and atmosphere. However some seriously sloppy editing really brings down this movie and as such it's really impossible to give this a full score. One of the big reveal scenes towards the end of the movie is actually confirmed to be shown out of order, making the ending somewhat confusing and messy.

So good, I do not understand how it is not as known as other classics! A must see for any fan of thinking movies.

Before John Wick made gun-fu mainstream, Equilibrium gave us “Gun Kata” a ballet of bullets choreographed with mathematical precision. Christian Bale plays a stoic enforcer in a dystopia where emotions are outlawed and Prozium keeps the population numb. But when he skips a dose, all hell and feeling breaks loose. The film blends Orwellian control with Matrix-style action and while the budget shows in places, the ambition is undeniable. Bale is magnetic, Taye Diggs smirks like a villain born for slow motion death and the set design oozes sterile menace. It’s not subtle, but it’s stylish and surprisingly sincere. Critics were lukewarm, but fans saw the spark. The emotional awakening arc hits harder than expected and the final showdown is pure catharsis. It’s a cult classic in the making, flawed, yes, but fiercely committed to its vision.

Bad ass. Easy to hate villain. Hard to comprehend state of affairs but then it's been done before in real life. Bale whoops butt.

It's fun to watch Christian Bale dance with guns. I have enjoyed this weird dystopian movie. Reminds me of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

Loved this movie back in the day. Still holds up well now. Something different. Before Batman Bale was the gramaton cleric.

One of the movies that unfortunately didn't get the attention it deserved, definitely worth a watch.

Equilibrium is a great example of how a simple premise—humanity suppressing emotion to prevent conflict—can turn into a stylish, memorable sci-fi action film when executed with commitment. You don’t need an overly complex plot when you have a strong lead character, clear motivation, and a world built around a sharp central idea. The film is undeniably violent, not in a gory way, but in a highly choreographed, almost operatic fashion that becomes its signature. Christian Bale delivers a cold, intense, and transformative performance that shows exactly why he later fit so perfectly into the Dark Knight trilogy. His portrayal of a man awakening to forbidden emotion gives the action real weight. The “gun kata” sequences may be gratuitous, but they’re also wildly entertaining and visually iconic. Equilibrium may not be a blockbuster classic, but it’s a bold, stylish, and surprisingly thoughtful dystopian action film that stands out in the genre.

A good poor man's Matrix. Not a big budget but well put together. Entertaining with great action.
