Dreamscape Ratings & Reviews
- Astralpb13−1 dA true nostalgic 80s classic! Always had weird dreams after watching this film as a kid lol
- hamunah728 februari 2025Cult classic. The effects are purely 80"s, but the plot is good.
- JaredXIII5 juli 2025[NO SPOILERS] A weird & wild 'Psy'-fi action-thriller! Both the superb psychedelic visual effects & the 'Fringe-Science-meets-The-Supernatural' storyline of Dreamscape are reminiscent of the film Altered States (1980) and-- IMO-- these 2 movies would make a excellent pairing for a double-feature. The acting is excellent and the plot moves along rather quickly. There are some really, really cool sets & practical effects in this movie that are just fantastic and alone, are a good enough reason to watch Dreamscape. I found myself engaged & entertained through the movie; Although, Dreamscape gets a bit goofy here & there along it's 100-Minute runtime (1h40mins), but it does so in a endearing and nostalgic way that doesn't become embarrassing or cringeworthy. All-in-All, I enjoyed Dreamscape and I'd say that it's a fun afternoon movie from the 80s that's suitable for the whole family. The PG-13 rating seems a little bit harsh to me, but I guess a couple of the "Nightmare" scenes could be considered "frightening to children".
- flavo4310 december 2025Dreamscape (1984) is a captivating sci-fi thriller that explores the fascinating concept of entering and manipulating dreams. The storyline is imaginative and engaging, blending psychological suspense with action in a way that feels ahead of its time. The cast is perfectly chosen, with Dennis Quaid delivering a charismatic performance and strong support from Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer, who add gravitas to the film’s darker undertones. While the dream effects may appear dated by today’s standards, they reflect the limitations of 1980s technology. Fortunately, the practical effects and inventive set pieces compensate, creating sequences that remain memorable and unsettling. The film balances its high-concept premise with solid character work, making it more than just a visual experiment. Dreamscape stands as a cult classic, notable for its originality and daring execution, proving that even imperfect visuals can’t diminish a truly brilliant idea.
- Stian Andreassen3 april 2026The concept is rad, the cast is literally stellar – Quaid, von Sydow, Plummer, Capshaw – but the execution, sadly, is below par. The second act is just build-up, build-up, build-up, to a third act that never arrives and an ending that feels rushed. The third act boss fight is underwhelming, and the snakeman felt so misplaced I wondered if there were vital scenes left on the cutting room floor. The denouement, where the villain meets karma, is blink and you’ll miss it.
- treebea420 oktober 2025Starring trumper trash!
- Peter Bickford10 juni 2025Really not great. A cheesy "Tuesday Night Movie" sort of production, complete with past-their-prime actors and naff set design. The miracle is that I somehow mentally conflated it with better movies of the era, leading me to regretfully watch it more than once.
