Its so inspiring of an animation and as a concept that it finds itself being referenced to in numerous contemporary media whether it be in film, art or video games. They truly do not make this kind of stuff anymore. Mamoru Oshii proved early on in his career that he was and is one of the greatest pioneering minds of anime in the same vein as Hideaki Anno and Hayao Miyazaki. Watch the 4k remaster when it releases! I know I will.

A haunting, quiet and contemplative Rorschach test of a film. Worth sitting down and dissecting OR perfect for putting on in the background while you do chores around your house.

Beautiful, menst for interpretation even though I don't feel equipped to understand it.

Saw the 4K remaster in theatre. New favourite 'person falling into water' scene.

This is why I love old anime. It is a very metaphorical movie, hard to understand and it somehow leaves more questions than answers, but is so beautiful and is so easy to feel it inspires so many things.

Like walking through a dream that can't be deciphered, you can't, you won't understand the hidden meanings. It's clear there is something there but if you try to figure it out you'll end up waking up.

Above all, this movie is an art piece. Not in the pretentious "this movie is art" way, but in the sense that it's like staring at a panting for 1h20m. This movie is boring. No, really, it's /boring/. But that doesn't mean it's not worth watching, I loved it, but keeping focus is hard, and focus should be kept. Don't watch this if you can't commit to being bored for the duration, because then you will get nothing from it. Do watch it in place of going to a museum today, and have an experience.
