It has the multi-character setup of Nashville but doesn't aim for that film's large-scale profundity, settling instead for a nicely claustrophobic day and night spent with two bickering upper middle class American families brought together by a wedding party that seems as if it will last longer than the marriage. Carol Burnett gets the closest thing to a lead role and proves that her brand of comic acting can translate to the big screen in a winning way. The rest of the cast is a rich mix of Altman regulars and partial unknowns who all get their chance to shine ... except Desi Arnaz Jr. Safe to say he did not inherit his father's talent.

Except the aging priest isn't too sure of the ceremony, only the families actually turn up as the Corelli Italian connection is suspect, security guards watch the gifts rather over-zealously, and Dino's grandma dies in bed just as the reception starts. Could be quite an occasion.
