I can't believe I've never seen Twin Peaks. It came out when I just couldn't commit to watching a TV show, what with being in university and singing and dancing in the bars of Carmarthen! With the passing of David Lynch I decided to watch his body of work, and seeing as I've seen a lot of his movies, this show seemed like the logical starting point. I loved this pilot episode, setting everything up nicely, and the series is just getting better every episode. I can understand its reputation as groundbreaking. The score, cast, writing, everything, is incredible. It really does pull you in.

The music is very distinct and original. If anyone were to play any of this music out of context, it would immediately make you think of the show.

This first episode does an astonishing job of establishing a labyrinthine nexus of characters, and pacing each of their storylines beautifully.

Cooper's precision will be challenged by the increasingly supernatural mystery. He is the most appropriate avatar for Twin Peaks, modulating continually between a peculiar humor and the plain peculiar.

Big in the 90s was the trend where teenagers would start spontaneously start crying and running around screaming right before the transference of bad news.

Twin Peaks does an exceptionally good job of establishing its characters as well as their secrets and indeed their motivations, taken or not taken, for killing Laura, or at least wanting her dead.

If you haven't watched the pilot in a while, know this: It's still about as effective an opening salvo as TV has ever produced.

Eric Diaz
David Lynch and Mark Frost's pilot episode for Twin Peaks is still one of the best pieces of television ever made for a network.

Another actor might have overplayed the part, but I love MacLachlan's performance here. He's gleefully enthusiastic about his new surroundings, yet professional to the last.
