A socio-criminal series based on the story of the murder of tenant activist Jolanta Brzeska and the investigation resumed after many years into the practice of wild reprivatization. The main characters of the series are two women: Commissioner Szerucka - an effective, although marginalized policewoman, and Janina Markowska - a tenant fighting with tenement house cleaners (a character based on Jolanta Brzeska). After seven years, the former takes over the renewed investigation into Markowska's death. The case was assigned to her as if it were a punishment, without any belief that she would find the perpetrators. The investigators know from the very beginning that they will encounter a world in which nothing is certain, whose influence and connections are dangerously wide. The action of the second season takes place in Silesia, where a steelworks plant is doomed to close. Bartosz Glik, full of youthful enthusiasm and ideals, is accepted for an internship at a prestigious architects' office. At first, he receives only uninteresting orders, until his boss gives him a project to renovate a neglected housing estate next to a steelworks plant. It turns out that his grandparents live there. Bartek and his family are looking forward to positive changes for the local community. Meanwhile, Justyna Andrzejewska, the investment manager, and her business and private partner, Edward Kowalski, have completely different intentions towards the estate. In the third season we move to Krakow. Witold, a motorman, repairs a broken electrical installation. The failure occurred in the hat workshop of his mother-in-law, Maryla, where suddenly a stranger knocked on the door. An elegant woman asks Maryla about the contact details of the owner of the tenement house. Meanwhile, in consultation with prosecutor Kobus and Colonel Wesolek, attorney Andrzejewski comes to Krakow to investigate the possibilities of taking over the local real estate.
