Season 1 Reviews
New York Times
Mike Hale
Without the freedom in language, tone and general obnoxiousness that FXX gives Sunny, the over-the-top situations in The Mick are less likely to make you laugh than to make you feel vaguely uncomfortable.
Washington Post
Hank Stuever
Translating those comic sensibilities to a broadcast network is not entirely smooth sailing, but Olson seems to have an instinct for finding the right spot between trashy and amusing, especially in moments where the material isn't providing much help.
Newsday
Verne Gay
The Mick wants to be outrageous, but instead settles for excessive.
Uncle Barky
Ed Bark
You may not laugh until it hurts, but there are some laughs to be had. Particularly for those who also swear by Family Guy.
Vox
Caroline Framke
Kaitlin Olson is a comedic bright spot in just about everything she touches... As Mickey, she uses every dirtbag tool in her arsenal, funnels them through a (vaguely more appropriate) network TV filter, and becomes the best part of The Mick by a mile.
rogercatlin.com
Roger Catlin
It doesn't play as well in what would have been a family sitcom, with kid actors forced down into the gutter for sex jokes.
Common Sense Media
Melissa Camacho
Irreverent comedy is fun, full of risky behaviors.
AV Club
Erik Adams
The Mick prizes laughter above all -- the petty sniping between kids and adults inspiring chuckles, the more elaborate and destructive set pieces going for gasps and belly laughs.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Rob Owen
Clearly this isn't the comedy of the Leave It to Beaver era, but there are some laughs to be found in The Mick, which is made tolerable thanks to Ms. Olson's charm in spite of the character she plays.
USA Today
Robert Bianco
What you don't have is anything fresh or funny, or any particular reason to watch.
Los Angeles Times
Meredith Blake
Ultimately the show feels like a shallow exercise in provocation.
The Hollywood Reporter
Daniel Fienberg
If the only thing accomplished by Fox's new comedy The Mick is giving Kaitlin Olson a few minutes alone in the spotlight, that may be accomplishment enough.
Variety
Maureen Ryan
The show's laziness extends beyond its one-dimensional characters to the writing.
Yahoo! TV
Ken Tucker
It's just an OK sitcom with a frequently charming performance by Olson, which may be enough for a while... But it also seems like the kind of project that could leave Olson feeling trapped.
Las Vegas Weekly
Josh Bell
It's hard to root for the characters when all of them are such terrible people, but their terribleness is compromised by the need to make them semi-likable.
Uproxx
Alan Sepinwall
The Mick, on the other hand, has the abundant talents of its lead as its chief recommending asset, but when she's still playing Sweet Dee at the same time, it's harder to have patience with her new show.
San Francisco Chronicle
David Wiegand
Olson is the sassy glue that keeps the whole thing together.
Detroit News
Tom Long
Like The Simpsons, Married with Children, Malcolm in the Middle and other Fox sitcoms, the ridiculous reach is what makes The Mick work. There is solace in realizing your family isn't near this bad and humor in realizing it could be.
Boston Herald
Mark A. Perigard
Fox's new comedy dangles the promise of outrageous high jinks just around the corner, but at its heart, it's a conventional story, the misfit forced to become the parent to three wayward kids and, of course, become a better person.
AV Club
Sulagna Misra
If 2016 was the year of the scam, that's raised the stakes for 2017. I can't tell yet if The Mick can meet those new expectations.
