Shaun Murphy jest ambitnym lekarzem, cierpiącym na autyzm i zespół Sawanta, który pragnie rozpocząć pracę w szpitalu św. Bonawentury w San Jose. Sceptyczne nastawienie zarządu uniemożliwia mu jednak rozpoczęcie tam współpracy.
