A police drama series depicting the working lives of a group of policemen in the fictitious Northern town of Stanton. The filming is done in a fly-on-the-wall, documentary style which conveys great realism and makes mundane situations into tense drama.

Episode 1Probationary policewoman Mel Draper, seriously hung-over and worse for wear following a night out with her mates, is called to investigate a suspicious death following complaints from a neighbour who notices a foul stench coming from the flat above.

Episode 2Giffen attempts to reason with a suicidal man on the roof of a department store. Danny, after rescuing a damsel in distress, finds himself engaging in a bizarre sex game, brought on by the excitement provoked by his policeman's uniform.

Episode 3Colin's attempts to stay out of trouble are thwarted when he reverses into a minibus taking a group of girls out on a hen night. Mel is taken aback when she meets her mates queuing up to go into a club and who are obviously uncomfortable about being seen with a policewoman. Mike and Natalie have a narrow escape when they come face to face with a man wielding a sawn-off shotgun.

Episode 4Wakefield persuades Mike and Natalie into dishonesty in an ID lineup in his pursuit of Stopes. At a night out to celebrate his upcoming marriage Mike drinks heavily and starts to get cold feet. He then starts a brawl with a some doormen.

Episode 5Natalie is on the trail of habitual shoplifters Kevin and Kelly Kettles. When Danny prioritizes his own relationship problems above the job there is a tragic turn of events.

Episode 6Mel Draper is called out to investigate the case of a fourteen-year-old girl who is missing. Arriving at the house she finds the girl has come home, but soon finds out the sordid truth about her activities on the streets.

Episode 7Danny returns to work but his mental health starts to deteriorate. When Roy takes a van out against the orders of Giffen the two men have a heated exchange. Natalie's pursuit of a vendetta against Brian Skillet has a tragic result.

Episode 8Mike and Natalie are in court but fail to secure a conviction, leading Nathalie to split with Wakefield. Feelings are running high on the Skeetesmore and when Danny goes to try and commiserate with Skillets widow an angry mob turn on him.
