- rg9400September 22, 2025Takopi's Original Sin really surprised me. It is a lot darker than I was initially expecting, but it manages to avoid feeling overtly miserable through its simple and cutesy perspective. It can pack an emotional punch though, and there is a constant hopelessness of both the naive alien and these young children against things that feel completely out of their control. I really liked the way the art would change to reflect the emotional context of the show, going from simplistic to very detailed line art when portraying despair, to an absolutely gorgeous burst of color in its final episode. The show does a good job of showcasing the impact of perspective as well, and by hyper-focusing in on the relationship between a trio of characters, it is able to examine it from different angles without getting burdened by trying to build a lot of other details into the story. That's one of this show's strengths as well. At 6 episodes, it is concentrated and focused, getting its message across without becoming drawn out like similar anime. My main criticism is that one of the characters has a lot less depth than the other two in my opinion, and I wished for a bit more out of the ending in relation to how the characters grow. However, these are minor quibbles, and this short anime is definitely worth your time, and if you trust it, it may land a potent emotional haymaker or two.
