Season 1
Hildy Granger lives in a town near Lake Tahoe. Her husband's the Sheriff and after his death, she's made his successor. And she tries to balance her work with raising her two children. One of her deputies, Max is irate that he wasn't named Sheriff and is constantly trying to upstage her.

A Little RomanceMax's father comes for a visit and everyone is shocked to see that he is nothing like Max. Gussie takes a liking to him and spends a lot of time with and Hildy's not happy about it. All AloneJealous of the attention Hildy is getting as spokeswoman for the Tahoe Visitors Bureau, Max mentors an allegedly destitute woman under and receives donations and sympathy from everyone except Hildy, who suspects from the beginning that the woman is a fraud. One is a lonely number as only Hildy doubts a woman, supposedly down on her luck, who is collecting donations from everyone with her sob story.
