- Cubane20 de junho de 2025It's a shame this show didn't get the traction it needed for renewal, as there's definitely something interesting here. It's a little too much body horror for my taste, and the show struggles to make some of the characters who dominate the screen time likeable, but it's still a ride worth your time. The spiritual successor to this show, Common Side Effects, had an amazing first season, and is a great follow-up after watching this.
- Rocco DOrazio29 de dezembro de 2024An insanely fresh sci-fi perspective in that it is clearly well researched in, or produced by, biologists well versed in zoology, botany, ecology and symbiology. This makes for a rich and detailed world brought to life beyond anything you'll normally see in fiction. The breadth of creativity and detail in how these fictitious bio organisms work, and their relationships, is unrivalled in anything I've ever seen. While the world being created kept me hooked, the overly repetitive themes of 'everything is just trying to eat you to survive' started to become numbing. There's little to chew on for each characters' story, as they mostly become threat-of-the-week stories with little purpose beyond, 'survive'. The other major issue is the direction and episodic structure. The excessive use of cuts to black, paired with 23 minutes of runtime (do we really need a 30-second intro every episode?) break the pacing of every episode. Each episode feels underdeveloped, causing the story to feel uninspiring. If this was edited into three 90 minute segments, it would solve a lot of pacing issues and make the whole thing seem more profound. Reminded me a lot of Book Four of The Expanse, Annihilation, David Cronenberg, and The Amazon Trail.
