The love story of Stanisław Połaniecki and the beautiful Marynia Pławicka, set in the scenery of manor houses and Warsaw from the end of the 19th century. Film adaptation of the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, which was once popular among readers and coldly received by contemporary literary critics ("The Połaniecki Family" was even read as a testimony of a poor state of mind after the scandal related to his failed marriage). The story repeated itself less than a hundred years later - reviewers criticized the show's creators for debt, composition errors and the superficiality of the entire story, but more than 70 percent of adult viewers watched it. "I tried to create an epic picture of bygone times, without any additions of meanings that Sienkiewicz does not have" - the director replied.
