Season 1 Reviews
The Atlantic
Sophie Gilbert
National Treasure, too, reminds of how much can be done in a limited-episode format, tackling an impossibly tricky subject within a tight frame. That it leaves you wanting more is only one of its achievements.
New York Times
Neil Genzlinger
National Treasure is a beautifully drawn portrait of ugliness, impeccably written and acted, yet painful to absorb.
Paste Magazine
Amy Glynn
National Treasure is a fantastic investigation into the shadows of the human psyche, with forceful and deeply layered performances-by everyone, really ... At four episodes, it's marvelous binge material. Make popcorn.
We Got This Covered
Matt Joseph
A smart set up and a strong opening episode are derailed by a middling mid section. At the very least, though, National Treasure delivers a denouement worth the wait.
Los Angeles Times
Robert Lloyd
It ... does capture an awful sense of isolation in close quarters, the sadness of lives that never quite align. And there's plenty to chew on from beginning to the end.
The Hollywood Reporter
Tim Goodman
There's an obvious familiarity to the subject matter, but with National Treasure, Thorne never makes it seem rote, boring or insignificant.
Entertainment Weekly
Chancellor Agard
This premise scarily and purposefully evokes recent headlines -- and to great effect. Thorne and director Marc Munden craft a gripping tale that scrutinizes the pedestals upon which we place celebrities.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Gail Pennington
Be assured that National Treasure pays off in every way a British crime drama can pay off.
Variety
Maureen Ryan
Over the course of that handful of installments, which arrive on Hulu all at once, National Treasure manages to build more suspense and have greater impact than many dramas that chew up far more airtime.
Los Angeles Daily News
Rob Lowman
Coltrane, Waters and Riseborough are brilliant in this compelling drama.
Capital Times (Madison, WI)
Rob Thomas
Whatever the answer, "National Treasure" is a well-acted and gripping drama that reminds us the images celebrities present of themselves to the world are often only skin-deep.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Jen Chaney
With only four episodes that run just under an hour each, it's a quick, engrossing watch and the kind of show whose premise will ensnare you into moving forward until you know how it ends.
RogerEbert.com
Brian Tallerico
A strong, challenging drama with great performances.
Common Sense Media
Joyce Slaton
This is gripping stuff, particularly if you've ever wondered what happens to the people whose sins are splashed across newspaper headlines.
