When a man is beaten in his own home by an apparent prowler, the perpetrator is mauled by the victim's dog. When it turns out that the dog has rabies, Chicago police lieutenant Frank Ballinger intensifies his search for the wanted man. But something about the victim's personal life makes Ballinger wonder if all is as it seems.
