Season 1 Reviews
Washington Post
Tom Shales
Knight Rider is all revved up but has no place to go, except, maybe, headlong into a large brick wall.
Philadelphia Inquirer
Lee Winfrey
Add Hasselhoff to the gallery of handsome new series heroes that the networks have supplied in profusion this fall.
Minneapolis Star Tribune
John Carman
Knight Rider is another trashy TV show from Universal Studios, the people who brought you The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman, along with countless failed series on NBC. Even the color looks washed out.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com
Jerry Coffey
Knight Rider is on the whole a pretty dumb show, but if we must have series featuring spectacular car-stunting chases and crashes -- and apparently we must -- then Knight Rider is considerably more stylish and watchable than "Dukes" or "CHiPs."
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Richard Zoglin
As fantasy-adventure shows go, there's nothing terribly wrong with this premise. But the creators of Knight Rider have joked it up with so many juvenile gimmicks that no one over the age of 10 can possibly be interested.
Detroit Free Press
Mike Duffy
Now, if we could only get the General Lee and this Knight Rider contraption to enter a demolition derby and have both of them lose.
Chicago Tribune
Marilynn Preston
[David Hasselhoff's] fly-by-Knight character is part tongue-in-cheek and all hero, and the supercar charges the whole concept with just enough energy to make Knight Rider one of the most memorable new series of the season.
Arizona Republic
Bud Wilkinson
The car is up for any adventure; unfortunately, the writing and acting are stuck at the curb. Look for Knight Rider on the Sonoyta Motors used-car lot soon.
Entertainment Weekly
Marc Bernardin
Knight Rider is a relic from a simpler time, when audiences demanded less from their TV.
AV Club
Josh Modell
No one who watched this thing could possibly be begging for more. Not that the series was particularly great to begin with, but this is just brain-dead.
Santa Cruz Sentinel
Tom Long
Every year TV programmers try and outdo one another in the race for the stupidest format of all time. This one even tops Supertrain.
Philadelphia Daily News
David Handler
Knight Rider teeters right on the edge of satire, verging on becoming another Batman. But not quite. It takes itself very seriously. Too bad.
Miami Herald
Sandra Earley
The new computer-driven talking super-car of NBC's Knight Rider has everything TV ever thought of for a hero: wit, charm, skill -- the whole KITT and caboodle, you could say.
Kansas City Star
Gerald B. Jordan
Cars that talk aren't new to television. Remember "My Mother the Car"? And handsome leading men are a cliche this television season. The disturbing thing about Knight Rider is that the car is vastly more intelligent than the driver
Fresno Bee
Lee Marksbury
This car is pushy. It is always ordering (or suggesting) that Michael do this or that. Michael doesn't particularly like that, but since the car is smarter than he is, he does what he is told. Dumb.
Austin American-Statesman
Diane Holloway
As car-starring series go, this one is hoods and roofs above the tacky goings-on over at CBS's Dukes of Hazzard, but Knight Rider suffers from taking itself too seriously.
Tampa Bay Times
Karl Vick
"Rider" is a violent, predictable and not-well-enough made private-eye series that sags under the dead weight of its leading man. If David Hasselhoff acts, it must be with his ears, which are hidden by his hair (and a blow-dried Mt. Hood it is).
Common Sense Media
Will Wade
This is one show that should drive off into the sunset.
CinemaBlend
Joshua Tyler
But the show has a great way of taking itself seriously and at the same time laughing right along with us at its own silliness. It's amazing how well that really sells it.
People Magazine
People Staff
Even in the new TV season of the battlin' beefcakers, this series is strikingly inane.
