Jesus of Nazareth with Robert Powell is, quite simply, one of the most powerful and faithful portrayals of the life of Christ ever put to screen. Powell’s performance is extraordinary — calm, commanding, and deeply human at the same time. He captures the compassion, authority, and quiet strength of Jesus in a way that feels both moving and authentic. The production itself is beautifully done: thoughtful writing, strong performances across the cast, and a reverent tone that never feels over-dramatised. It follows the Gospel story with care and depth, allowing the characters and teachings to breathe rather than rushing through them. What really stands out is how emotionally grounded it is. The scenes with the disciples, the miracles, and the crucifixion are handled with dignity and sincerity, making the story feel intimate rather than theatrical. Even decades later, this remains the definitive screen portrayal of Jesus. A masterpiece of biblical storytelling that deserves every one of its five stars.
