An adaptation of the long-running manga series "Chie the Brat" (1978-1997) by Etsumi Haruki. Chie Takemoto is the sly and street smart daughter of an impoverished gambler who has trouble in keeping a job. She schemes to make her father's tavern profitable, to find him a better job, and to reunite her separated parents.
