Novak is pleased when old friend and national newspaper reporter Amy Rivers comes to Los Angeles to do a story on police work, until Amy's enthusiasm impedes an armed robbery investigation. Novak is puzzled by her friend's insensitive attitude until she learns of Amy's recently acquired cocaine dependence.
