Season 2 Reviews
New York Magazine/Vulture
Jen Chaney
By pushing the story line into unexpected directions, it is more pointedly satirical and it makes us reassess the way we handle such abuses.
Village Voice
Lara Zarum
Great News has a screwball charm and a flair for rapid-fire jokes, built on a premise that amusingly literalizes the classic sitcom concept of co-workers as family.
Boston Globe
Matthew Gilbert
It's as if Martin has bundled together all the comedic tricks she's learned in a half-century career during which she has played countless roles on TV, on film, and onstage.
RogerEbert.com
Brian Tallerico
It's a funny show, but it's working through some growing pains, trying to find its voice and figure out its cast chemistry, which, to be fair, it took 30 Rock about a season to do as well.
AV Club
Vikram Murthi
Great News takes a big leap in the direction of its forbearer, not just by bringing Tina Fey on to guest star as Diana St. Tropez, the new president of MMN, but also to essentially mold her in the vein of Alec Baldwin's brash but caring Jack Donaghy.
Yahoo! TV
Ken Tucker
This show is underhyped and excellent, bursting with media-savvy jokes in the manner of Fey's 30 Rock.
Refinery29
Ariana Romero
What follows our introductory glimpse at Diana's creepiness is a perfect, not-so-subtle takedown of the way society as a whole treats women who have been preyed upon by their male superiors.
The Verge
Noel Murray
Great News has the hallmarks of another of those belated Netflix favorites. It's so rocket-paced that it almost demands multiple viewings to catch all the one-liners and oddball cultural references.
Vanity Fair
Hillary Busis
... the show is a fitting successor to the series that appears to have inspired it-fast and funny and appealingly strange, especially now that it's past the scene-setting of Season 1.
indieWire
Ben Travers
There are enough laughs to match the talent involved. The well-utilized cast is charming, the writing a bit sharper, and, oddly enough, the arcs feel more original.
rogercatlin.com

Tina Fey puts a little more juice in her "Great News" (NBC, 9:30 p.m.) by joining the cast as a tough new executive and just like that the series moves from cute to genuinely funny...
Metro
Jana Pollack
While the writing has its moments of brilliance, as a whole the show feels stagnant.
TV Line
Dave Nemetz
Most things get significantly better when you add Tina Fey to them. So it makes sense that adding the 30 Rock alum to the Season 2 cast of NBC's Great News takes an already-fun sitcom and elevates it about a bazillion notches.
