It’s not just a tool, it’s a burden, a beacon and a psychic Swiss Army knife. The animation is classic 80s: chunky ships, neon beams and character designs that scream VHS nostalgia. The voice cast delivers earnest performances and the story, while simplified from E.E. Smith’s sprawling saga, still captures the spirit of cosmic adventure. It’s part Star Wars, part Space Battleship Yamato, with a dash of psychic mysticism. Watching it on TV gave it that forbidden thrill, like catching something you weren’t supposed to understand yet, but felt anyway. It’s not perfect, but it’s earnest and that counts.
