Season 1

Fried follows the staff in the struggling Croydon branch of a low rent fast food chain, "Seriously Fried Chicken". We follow the group as they navigate the greasy world of nugget vending under the watchful gaze of Mary, their eternally optimistic but desperately ineffectual branch manager. Her job is coveted by bitter assistant manager Derek, who's been working at the restaurant "since it were a Wimpy". Then there's geeky teenager Joe, who only has eyes for Amara; and the man who's decided they're best friends - foul-mouthed and relentlessly self-absorbed Ed; and the older, always riled Shontal. Every week the team have to deal with the customers, each other and the indelible smell of oil.

Hold UpMary and Joe are about to lock up shop when two knife-wielding hoodies run in, demanding a free portion of nuggets. Mary runs into the store room and locks herself in and Derek - exhorting her to ask the staff if she should remain - trusts that this will give her the sack - though it fails to. Joe is declared the hero of the hour but Amara is still not anxious to have sex with him as he had hoped

Poulet EtcSeriously Fried Chicken is losing trade to Poulet Etc, an up-market fast food wagon parked outside the shop. Joe goes on a date with their employee JoJo and is alarmed by her criminal tendencies whilst Mary attempts in vain to sabotage her rival. When the Poulet Etc van is mysteriously burnt to the ground things work out for Seriously Fried Chicken as Mary loses the opposition and Joe is able to incriminate JoJo as the culprit.

The Chicken AwardsAll the staff set out for the Seriously Fried Chicken annual awards except Amara and Joe, whom Ed - in an effort to help his love-lorn friend win his dream girl - locks in the freezer. They huddle together for warmth and kiss though freedom may provide a rude awakening for Joe in more than one sense. For Mary the evening brings mixed fortunes due to an encounter with her old flame Gareth.
In the Beginning

In the BeginningAn extended flashback shows the Croydon outlet suffering from the slovenly, indifferent manager Tony. With him removed head office sends in trouble shooter Mary to reverse the shop's fortunes. Staff are apathetic and complaints rife but, with considerable help from young Joe, Mary turns things round with the shop making a profit and complaint- free though what happens next is not exactly what she was hoping for.
