Season 3 Reviews
Autostraddle
Valerie Anne
I'm hoping next season will see more of Valencia and Beth, and that they won't end as subtly as they began.
Slate
Inkoo Kang
That Crazy Ex-Girlfriend takes its responsibility to portray recovery so fastidiously is noble. But as this season exemplifies, that honorableness doesn't always translate to narrative satisfaction, especially when coupled with other storytelling deficits
New York Magazine/Vulture
Matt Zoller Seitz
Musical-theater geeks probably get the most out of this show, but it's so unusual that I recommend it to everyone I meet. It's primordial showbiz magic.
AV Club
Allison Shoemaker
It's a good thing that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is so goddamned funny. If it weren't, it might be the most depressing show on television.
Uproxx
Alan Sepinwall
The new episodes pull off the tricky balancing act of making the other characters be sympathetic to Rebecca's need for vengeance even as they disapprove of nearly everything she does in order to get it.
Entertainment Weekly
Dana Schwartz
Her hair might have changed, but this is still everyone's favorite crazy ex-girlfriend.
New York Magazine/Vulture
Allie Pape
It's a lot of conflicting plot for the show to balance, and it's clear that some of Rebecca's insecurity about what's next is shared by the show as well.
indieWire
Steve Greene
For the time being, [Rebecca] still has some folks left in her corner - the real drama comes from seeing how they choose to stick around.
Tell-Tale TV
Janelle McCammack
Where almost every other show out there forgets the ladies and makes them props, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend makes women characters complex and transcend any gender-based label.
ScreenCrush
Kevin Fitzpatrick
While I'll miss the endless well of diverse musical numbers and running gags, the network's Netflix pact will make Season 3 a handy re-watch before the fourth and final year.
Film School Rejects
Liz Baessler
This whole season has been a gift.
The Young Folks
Allyson Johnson
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has made a seismic shift in its narrative and a bold and assured declaration that it, like its heroine, truly understands who they are.
TV Insider
Matt Roush
The crazier the better. That's been the case for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in its brilliant third season, which has fearlessly whipsawed from manic wackiness to emotional devastation back to sublime romantic-comedy farce without missing a musical beat
Consequence
Clint Worthington
[Peter Gardner] once again proved his value as one of the show's greatest scene stealers.
PopMatters
Jay Bamber
Perhaps most importantly, it's bruising without feeling like it's beating any of the shows characters up, proving that television can be bracing and prickly at the same time as being compassionate.
The Week
Lili Loofbourow
So the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premiere does what every episode of this show does: treat the stereotype with unexpected understanding and empty it.
The Young Folks
Michael Fairbanks
This is the turning point in the series' planned four-season arc where we've been promised a deep dark dive into a broken women's psyche with a barrel of laughs and songs along the way.
TV Line
Dave Nemetz
I like the new Rebecca-Nathaniel dynamic.
TV Fanatic
Yana Grebenyuk
My one request for the season going forward is more music. We got two sequences this time, and they were both brilliant, yet I decided to be selfish and ask for more.
The Daily Beast
Kevin Fallon
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is still the most charming show on TV.
