He teams up with New York police detective Kate Beckett to solve the case. He finds inspiration in Detective Beckett and starts shadowing her for his next book.

Together, they elevate every episode into something effortlessly watchable. If Blue Lights is Warhammer 40K — all grit, pain, and moral darkness — then Castle is The Marvel Cinematic Universe of crime TV: fast-talking, emotionally satisfying, and just serious enough to keep its heart intact amid the fun. It even shares DNA with Absentia — its brooding, more tortured cousin lurking just down the alley, still carrying some of Castle’s emotional DNA but drained of the laughter. Meanwhile, Death in Paradise sits at the other end of the galaxy — a cupcake in paradise compared to Castle’s espresso-shot wit — while The Rookie feels like a natural spiritual successor, continuing that upbeat, character-driven tone (and indeed, several Castle alumni make delightful cameos there).
