Gebaseerd op het waargebeurde verhaal van moordenaar Candy Montgomery en haar slachtoffer, Betty Gore. Texas, 1980. Candy Montgomery is een huisvrouw en moeder die schijnbaar alles heeft, een liefhebbende echtgenoot met een goede baan, een dochter en een zoon en een mooi huis in de gloednieuwe buitenwijken. Maar wanneer de druk van conformiteit in haar toeneemt, schreeuwen haar acties om een beetje vrijheid. Maar waarom vermoordde ze haar vriendin van de kerk met een bijl?

One of the better true crime limited series that released in 2022. (And that’s a surprisingly long list, if memory serves). Jesica Biel is great and is the main draw. But there’s excellent production design and camera work that makes this a captivating watch. Plus at 5 episodes it’s a super quick binge. And I now believe that 5 episodes is the perfect length for all these limited series.
I do enjoy true crime, but this series fell short for me. Jessica Biel and Pablo Schreiber's performances are great, but this is one of those "meetings that could've been an email". There's a large amount of unnecessary dialogue and scenes that feel invented for the programme (than what happened in real life) - but my main issue is the quite anti-climactic ending. I do realise that the events of the final episode happened in real life, but what I would've liked to see is the aftermath. We'll see how HBO's "Love & Death" fares, since it's about the same story.
