Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 Ratings & Reviews
- flavo43December 1, 2025Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 set out to reimagine a beloved cult classic, and while it delivers a sleek updated aesthetic and retains elements of the original’s mecha designs and core plotlines, it ultimately falls short of capturing the magic that made the 1987 series iconic. The animation style is solid for its era, and the Knight Sabers remain compelling heroines, but the overall production feels like a step down in energy and ambition. One of the biggest shortcomings is the soundtrack—where the original thrived on its memorable, pulse-pounding music, Tokyo 2040 offers a far tamer, less impactful selection that never reaches the same heights. The tone, too, feels softened; the gritty cyberpunk edge and attitude of the original are noticeably diminished. If I hadn’t been such a fan of the first series, I might have approached this revival with fewer expectations. As it stands, Tokyo 2040 is serviceable, but it never quite earns its legacy.
- SetyaYTOctober 12, 2025It’s almost perfect. The story is very good, the music is awesome and the animation is insane.
- NonPlayableContentJune 9, 2025Magical girl cyborg transformations and partial nudity! This series got messed up by bad publication management but its very much with a watch for scifi fans.
