- MrTrivetMarch 10, 2026The series shows that the world of the Gauls, infused with that distinct French, self-ironic sense of humor, still feels fresh. The creators clearly have fun with the animation - it is rich in detail, full of color, movement, and small visual gags that make watching it enjoyable in itself. One of my favorite elements is also the characters’ names - full of clever wordplay that adds another layer of humor to the show. The greatest comedic strength, however, comes from the subtle references to pop culture and the modern world. Thanks to them, both younger viewers and adults can find something to enjoy. At the same time, the series preserves the spirit of the classic comics by René Goscinny. It remains a story about the strength of friendship and stubborn quarrels, with the timeless clash between the weak and the powerful unfolding in the background; the Gauls versus the Romans. The original story fits well within the familiar world and feels crafted with clear respect for the source material.
