T'maWithout high command, the military and the country are in turmoil. Soldiers are rebelling against officers. The provisional government offers a political job to Kolcheck that he refuses. He wishes to continue fighting the Germans alongside America. He does not allow Anna to travel with him, and in an unfortunate turn of events, loses contact with his wife and son.

Schast'yeSofya and her son go into hiding while Anna makes a mission of finding Kolcheck, who is now in Japan. Kolcheck's role there is not satisfying his need to fight for his country, so he heads to Omsk to receive a promotion unlike any other.
