Inspired by Sibilla Aleramo's novel of the same name, the script tells the story of Lina who, having moved from Milan to southern Italy, where her engineer father has decided to open a factory, meets Antonio who becomes her husband. Prisoner of a narrow life and a man who turns out to be closed-minded and sometimes even violent, after years of putting up with it, Lina decides to indulge her aspirations.
