Season 1
Only a few apartments have not been destroyed by bombs, and white flags hang on most of the undamaged houses - Rostock on May 1st, 1945. The population is anxiously awaiting the Soviet army. Mother Kempowski, son Walter and grandfather de Bonsac have gathered on the balcony for a private peace celebration with a glass of wine. The fate of the father and the older son Robert, who fought in the war as soldiers, is uncertain - the family has had no news of them. Suddenly, gunshots whip through the streets and machine gun fire rattles. The Kempowskis flee into the apartment... The first years of peace are also a time of deprivation, disappointment and sad events for the family.
